Remuneration

Suggested au pair salaries:

  •                                                                                                                                                                                                Please note that the currently hourly rate for an au pair is R65 – R125 per hour, depending on the following aspects:
  • Level of education
  • Childcare qualifications
  • Relevant experience
  • Hours worked
  • Number of children cared for

Please keep in mind, that the fewer hours that are worked, the higher the hourly rate. Au pair salaries vary from R4500 pm half day – R20 000 pm full day, depending on the above.

Au pairs are also reimbursed for petrol at +- R3.50 – R3.80 per km travelled (only work related, not to and from work) or included in the salary, paid as a fixed amount every month or reimbursed at the AA rate.

A telephone allowance of R50 – R150 is optional and left to the discretion of the employer, which can be added to the salary, to utilize in case of an emergency.

Please bear in mind, that in order for au pairs to meet their monthly commitments, they need to earn a fixed monthly income/ salary, as they generally work throughout the year, including school holidays.They are remunerated irrespective of whether you make use of their services or not.
